The incumbent will be considered a subject matter expert in the knowledge management system and will be expected to contribute to this system. Inattention or careless operation of material moving equipment, careless hooking or guiding material may cause lost time injury to others, such as crushed hand or foot.

Successful candidate will have an advanced knowledge of multiple National and State building and construction code requirements. Incumbent must be able to work independently as well in a team environment on process, capital, and equipment related projects for their assigned projects. Incumbent must be proficient in scheduling and/or project management software, and AutoCAD. Qualifications for this position include possessing a working knowledge of steelmaking production, a four-year from an accredited institution in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a steelmaking environment, preferably with quality control or metallurgy. The incumbent should have a strong knowledge of metallurgy and an understanding of steel manufacturing and techniques used in the melting, refining, and casting of molten steel and/or modern rolling practices.

The Yard Operator will assist in several aspects of daily operational needs such as scrap inspection, ferrous and non-ferrous purchasing, mobile equipment operation, and performing general maintenance duties. Performs maintenance necessary to keep plant, equipment, machinery, and tools in good operating condition. Work involves a wide range of methods and procedures on a variety of routine and non-routine duties to adequately and properly diagnose, dismantle, repair, lubricate, and reassemble equipment. Troubleshoots basic mechanical assemblies to determine whether a pump, gearbox, hydraulic system or pneumatic system can be repaired or needs to be replaced, whether to replace or repair worn parts, and amount of lubrication needed. You will be performing a limited variety of highly repetitive duties to load and secure steel rail spike products into railroad gondola cars, boxcars, or truck trailers for shipment to customer location.

Perform Metallurgical Services functions through chemical analysis of heat samples, hot billet inspection and inventory control, and managing billet hot charging. Maintain and operate spectrometer, Leco analyzer, and related equipment to examine the chemical composition of heats from melting and casting. Maintain and operate the slag analyzer and related equipment for determination of slag composition in melting. Inspect hot billets at the caster for surface and dimensional conformity to orders.
